Arizona Answers

Earlier this week, I received an email from my friend Serena’s younger sister, Abbie, who is a senior at the University of Arizona.

“Hi Jordan! I am taking a class called The Heritage and Traditions at the University of Arizona, and I have an assignment to interview a past Arizona alumni. Would you mind answering a few questions for me?”

Would I mind? PLEASE. The opportunity to talk about myself while simultaneously reminiscing about college? BRING IT. So I promptly wrote back “of course!” and she sent me the questions. I answered them for her, and now I’m reposting them here. CUZ I WANNA.

Here we go:

How many years did you attend the University of Arizona?

I attended the University of Arizona for four years - I graduated in 2007.

Why did you choose the University of Arizona?

I chose the University of Arizona for several reasons. It offered the major I was interested in, Creative Writing. The weather was gorgeous. There was an active Greek life and athletic program. I also liked the idea that it was relatively close to home - only about an hour flight to Los Angeles. Most of all, I knew a lot of people who went to Arizona, and every single one of them loved it. I knew I would have a great time if I went there too!

What was your major?

I majored in Creative Writing. I also minored in Judaic Studies.

What was your favorite class?

My favorite class was ENGLISH 380 - Literary Analysis. I loved reading books and watching movies and writing analytical papers about them, and I learned so much from my professor, Carlos Gallego. I took the class first semester of my sophomore year, and liked it so much I took several other classes from Mr. Gallego in the following years.

What is your favorite memory?

My favorite memory from college is the day it snowed in Tucson - January 22nd, 2007. I’ll never forget it. It was a Sunday, and it was freezing cold - the news had been saying all weekend that it was going to snow, but no one believed it. When the first snowflakes started falling from the sky, I was in shock. All of my friends congregated outside in someone’s front yard and spent hours running around in the snow, making snow angels, throwing snowballs, and taking pictures. The next morning, we woke up to a desert completely covered in white - it was amazing. I took a picture of a cactus covered in snow that makes me laugh to this day!

What was your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus would have to be the Student Union. You could usually find me buying things in the bookstore spending way too much money on Arizona gear, eating lunch with friends (usually at Chick-fil-A), or sitting outside on the patio enjoying the weather.

What were some organizations you were involved with?

During my four years, I was incredibly involved with my beloved sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi. Beginning freshman year and continuing all throughout college, I held many positions, including Pledge Class President, Serenading Chair, Standards Delegate, Chapter Historian, and Vice President of New Member Education. My senior year, I was chosen as my sorority’s Homecoming Queen nomination, and although I did not win, I was so flattered and truly touched that the chapter had selected me to represent them amongst the larger Arizona community.

How have you remained a proud, loyal Wildcat?

I will ALWAYS be a proud Wildcat, no matter where I am! I proudly attend Arizona away games whenever possible, wear red and blue with pride, and can occasionally be found singing “Bear Down Arizona” while in the shower :)

Most importantly, I learned a lot about myself while away at college, and I am a better person today because of the lessons I learned, memories I made, and friendships I know I will have forever. Going to school at the University of Arizona made me more independent, more confident, and opened my eyes to all different kinds of people and experiences - I feel privileged to be a Wildcat!

Goddamn it, I miss college. I’d give anything to go back and do it again. Glad I could help, Abbie! Enjoy it while you can :) and of course... BEAR DOWN!

Yall have a great weekend!
