For Your Entertainment

Many of you who read this know me quite well. And that means you are very familiar with my complete and total obsession with the one and only Adam Lambert.

I am not going to go into a whole shpiel about how I feel he, above ANYONE else, deserved to win American Idol this year (HE WAS ROBBED! ROBBED I TELL YOU!), but the fact remains, he is by far the most talented contestant that I, a longtime devotee and major fan of the show, has ever seen, and ever expects to see again. And now, his first single has been released, off his new album, For Your Entertainment. (Don’t worry – I pre-ordered it months ago).

Words cannot express how much I love this man. Come on! Look at this! His very first mainstream album – and this is what he puts out for the world to see on the cover!

He is talented beyond belief, gorgeous, JEWISH, and unapologetically fabulous. (In a particular fantasy of mine, we meet, fall in platonic gay-best friend love, and spend the rest of our days together, where we compliment each other using that exact phrase above. Hey, it can apply to me too!)

I may or may not be guilty of buying floor seat tickets to the American Idols 2009 summer tour, dragging my mother along with me, and proceeding to spend the entire time shrieking like a fourteen-year old girl every time his name was mentioned. Don’t even get me started on my behavior when he actually came out to perform his solo set – I literally stood on my seat, weeping real tears, and took so many photos that my camera broke. I also bought this shirt and wore it the entire time.

Here is the link to his newest single. (I really need to learn how to embed video on this thing. Anyone want to teach me?) I love it and can’t wait to hear the rest of the album!

I Am The Next Hundred Years

A few days ago, I returned from one of my favorite cities on earth – that gloriously sophisticated, bustling metropolis of TUCSON, ARIZONA. Why did I make this pilgrimage to the desert, you ask? Well, it was a very special occasion….

My beloved sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi, was celebrating its centennial anniversary – one hundred years ago, on October 24th, 1909, AEPhi was founded by seven Jewish women at Barnard College in New York. Cue to 100 years later –hundreds of thousands of AEPhis from nearly fifty chapters nationwide call themselves sisters.

Though I wish more members of my pledge class (slash my best friends) would have been able to make the trip, sadly, they were not. So, the entire weekend, it was just me and Miss Rebecca Gerrick, making everyone else jealous as we drank at Dirtbags ($150 tab? Oops), ate at Beyond Bread, Wildflower, and Oreganos (of course!), tailgated on the mall (BEAR DOWN!), and of course, celebrated AEPhi!

The weekend was amazing. Ever since I graduated college, I have often thought of how lucky I am to have been part of something like the Alpha Lambda chapter of AEPhi. By being a part of it, I found my best friends (and future bridesmaids!), but I also found something more important – myself (disclaimer: cheesy paragraph below).

I was a total mess when I entered the U of A as a freshman – homesick and missing my friends desperately. But when I walked through the doors of AEPhi, I truly knew instantly that I had found my new home. Those girls welcomed me with open arms and smiles on their face, and made me believe that with their love and support, I could be or do anything. So I did – I threw myself into participating with everything I had. I served as Pledge Class President, Mom’s Weekend Chair, Serenading Chair, Vice President of New Member Education, Historian, and Ritualist. I soaked it all up and loved every moment of it – I cried for months after I graduated. Every single day, I talk to no less than five of my pledge class sisters – my best friends on earth.

On Saturday night, at the centennial celebration, nearly 300 women formed a circle in the Student Union Ballroom and sang From Atlantic to Pacific, our sorority song. Afterwards, a microphone was passed from hand to hand, and everyone was invited to share their special thoughts or a memory from their time in AEPhi. When it was my turn, I babbled a little bit, and started crying (embarrassing, I know!), but I managed to get across what I wanted to say, which is this:

No matter what I gave to AEPhi as a member, AEPhi will always have given me more. I am a better person today because of the lessons I learned in my sorority, and the girls who taught them to me.

Happy 100th birthday, AEPhi! And LML always!

Cue Music: Here I Go Again (On My Own)

Here I go again!

Welcome, all, to my new blog. I had some great times with Don’t Fuck With Fabulous, but I’ve gone through some changes – some may even say I matured a little bit – and let’s face it, dropping the “F Bomb” when I want to give people my blog address was not the easiest thing when it came to, say, coworkers. Or Rabbis.

Thus, a new blog, for a new me – with a publically acceptable name and everything!

Over the past few months (since June 14th, to be exact, when I wrote my 100th and coincidentally, last post on DFWF) I have truly missed having a place where I could capture all the entertaining, hilarious, provocative, and (let’s face it), bizarre thoughts that fly through my head.

I hope you’ll keep coming back. The best part of DFWF was hearing all the wonderful positive feedback from family, friends, and frankly, strangers – someone once stopped me in a bar to tell me how much they enjoyed reading what I wrote. Best compliment ever! So please, stick around. And comment lots – I just can’t get enough :)

So, here we are. And here I go again!
