Disappointing Pink :(

I LOVE THIS DRESS.

It has everything I love. It’s strapless. It has flowers AND a huge bow. Best of all, the main color -- ELECTRIC SHOCKING HOT PINK!

Many a temper tantrum has been had by me in the middle of Bloomingdales due to this dress. At one point, I strongly considered it a serious contender for the title of Twenty Fifth Birthday Celebration Dress. Alas, it does not fit right. I may have shed a little tear in the dressing room upon realizing this :( the boobs were all wrong and it was a little too short for my liking. (You know me. Miss Modest. HA!)

However, I have made my peace with the dress, due to procuring several other adorable contenders for the Twenty Fifth Birthday Celebration. Instead, I will ogle it as eye candy and seethe with jealousy if I ever see anyone else wearing it. You have been warned.

Just kidding :) If it looks cute on you, please buy it! It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Things I Always Have...

JGIWC did this cute little post and you know I like to steal her lists. I had to modify mine slightly from hers but you get the picture :)

Things I always have...

..in my fridge: baby Diet Coke cans, feta cheese, and this delicious eggplant dip I get from the Brentwood Farmer’s Market every Sunday. Let’s be honest, my fridge is empty 90% of the time due to how often I travel. A few months ago I actually forgot where the market was.

...in my freezer: Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Chicken Paninis and vodka. Lots of vodka.

...on my desk: my MacBook Pro (AKA the love of my love), a freakishly detailed to-do list for the week, a Britney Spears CD, and the first and only movie I received from Netflix, still in the package unopened, due to a) my inability to sit down and watch it and b) my inability to return it. PS. I got it in February. I’m an idiot.

...on my coffee table: Jonathan Adler’s My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living, three sets of coasters, the People magazine featuring Obama the week after he won, and a lot of crumbs. Oops.

...on my nightstand: a water bottle, a shot glass from Poland (ew, why? I just realized how weird and random that is), my insanely diva chandelier desk lamp, and my eyeglasses if they’re not on my face.

...in my makeup bag: Benefit bronzer in Dallas, a Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Clinique High Impact mascara, and fourteen different kinds of black eyeliner. That’s not all, but one of these days I’ll dump my makeup bag out and show you what else I’ve got.

...on my dresser: a Liberty of London container holding approximately 15 pairs of sunglasses, my collection of clutches/evening bags, Febreeze, and a sewing kit (I can sew! AND embroider. Bet you didn’t know that!)

...in my shower: Dove shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair, Aussie 3-Minute Miracle, Softsoap Moisturizing Bodywash in Pomegranate Mango, and Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser.

...on my bed: Anthropologie bedding, a pair of AEPhi yoga pants, and my beloved pink squishy pillow.

Well that was fun!

My Kendra Scott Earrings - SO Fab!

So my Kendra Scott Danielle earrings finally arrived! I love them - I got them on a Thursday, and immediately wore them out Friday, Friday night, and Saturday. See how cute they are? (And how tan I am!?)

I could NOT decide what color I wanted, but ultimately, I decided to go for the most popular color -- Turquoise (you all know my feelings on turquoise - remember, the color of the summer?) If I may brag for a moment, whenever I wear turquoise jewelry my eyes look so blue -- so I am very pleased with my choice!

I love playing on the Kendra Scott website -- the color bar is the cutest idea. You can design your own earrings - whatever style and colors you like! I think this would make such a fantastic gift :)

And now for the best news...

OF COURSE, right after I bit the bullet and bought them, PIPM posted a code giving anyone buying Kendra Scott jewelry online 20% off their entire order! So I’m thinking I just may need to go get them in another color... or three....

The code is DANIELLE20, and it’s valid until July 5th, 2010.

What are you waiting for? Go pick up a pair for yourself!

A Rock that Rocks My World

A few days ago, I was minding my own business, innocently googling important things like anklet bracelets and toe rings, when I happened upon this site - Max & Chloe. Apparently, I am way behind the times, because when I mentioned it to my sister and a few other people, they already knew all about it. Oops. I gotta keep up.

Anyways, I clicked the website and there, on the homepage, was a whole section on what’s new in the world of jewels. Fascinating stuff, I tell you. So now you ask, what’s new in the world of jewels?

Agate jewelry. I would describe it as equal parts nature babe and rock goddess -- they’re gemstones with built-in sparkles! And in continuing my quest to cover every part of my body with things that sparkle, glitter, or shine, I have stumbled upon this insane ring.

I am literally dying over this ring. It is pink and magenta and fuschia, so naturally I love it, but then it’s also iridescent and kind of spiky. It makes a STATEMENT. And I am a girl who likes to make a statement!

The website describes it as “resembling a shiny disco ball.” How could I possibly not fall in love with it after that?

ISRAELOVE

Good morning! In a few hours, I am heading off to my favorite place on earth for the FOURTH time this year... ISRAEL!

Craziness. This time, I’m leading a Birthright trip for a 22-26 age group, and my co-staff is my pal Sammy, which I’m excited about. Everyone who knows us says the same thing when they find out we’re staffing together - “Your bus is going to be INSANE.” Ha. True. Hope those guys and gals are ready for a LOT of singing over the bus microphone.

Speaking of those guys and gals, I know a few participants this time! Very exciting. One of my best friends, Miss Alexandra B.C., coincidentally got put on my trip, and I am pumped. She has spent the last week and a half calling me sixteen times a day to discuss packing, ask questions regarding the type of shorts she should be bringing, and interrogate me about the likelihood of her needing more than one converter. Delightful. I’m just kidding - Alex has never been to Israel and I am SO excited to introduce her to my favorite places, stores, shops, restaurants, and people. (And please look forward to a thousand photos of the two of us atop a camel.)

Anyways, you know the drill -- I’ve scheduled a few posts (five, if I remember correctly - one every other day the entire time I’m gone) to go up so you all can have your Queenly fix :)

Please remember to leave lots of comments, and make them funny - I will need something to make me laugh when I am climbing fucking Masada at 5:00 in the goddamn morning AGAIN. And if you haven’t done so already, I HIGHLY recommend telling your friends, family, neighbors, loved ones, and strangers on the street about this blog. The more people who read this, the happier I am, and the happier I am, the funnier the posts are. Basically what I’m trying to say is: feed my ego.

The picture above is a riff on the famous LOVE statue in Pennsylvania. The one I posted says “Ahava”, which means love in Hebrew. And I put it up because that’s what I feel when I think about Israel - love, love, LOVE!

Israel! I can’t wait to see you again!

Fun Silverman Fam Weekend with BJ and Vestie

Cheerio! Did everyone have a lovely weekend? I know I did.

Many of you let me know how much you enjoyed the Silverman Sister Rules and I’m happy to report that there were ZERO fights the entire weekend. Seriously. This may be some sort of world record. No clothes were stolen (including clothing with tags), no one was given a little smack, and the front seat of the car was shared equally. The parentals were very pleased.

Want to see some cute pics from the weekend? On Saturday we went to Pasadena and walked around the Pasadena Chalk Art Festival. And Bailey and I posted by a tree.

Not going to lie, JM and I were way more interested in hot dogs then the chalk.

Saturday night we had fam dinner at Fraiche in Santa Monica. It was delicious - if you go, I highly recommend the beef tartare and the monkfish. Amazing!

BJ+JM:

Awesome new family photo. My mom insisted we take this because last week, she bought a Groupon for a new photo canvas and she "does not want it to go to waste!"

And of course, in addition to lots of Bailey time, we also celebrated something very special... FATHER’S DAY!

Every day with Garsilv is a treat. Whenever my dad does something silly or weird or strange, we like to tease him and say “Oh man... we got the best one.” But really, we did get the best one. Look how cute this man is!

That’s him in his little grill outfit -- we had a special barbecue in honor of him and invited lots of pals over. My mom made a FEAST -- hot dogs, chicken apple sausages, roasted turkey, chicken wings, and baby sliders, in addition to Israeli salad, baked beans, corn, pasta salad, Crumbs cupcakes, angel food cake, fruit, etc etc etc. (If you’re curious, my contribution was my award-winning guacamole -- one day I will share the recipe with all of you. Bailey used to claim that she made the best guac, and one day we had a taste-test/contest in the kitchen for the parentals. Mine won, hands down. I have bragging rights FOREVER.)

Here is Erez and his very full plate:

And us ladies before we dug in:

As for gifts, let me just say, Garsilv is a very spoiled man. Last year, he developed a bit of a vest obsession, so for Father’s Day, we gave him not one, not two, but THREE vests and he was so excited he did a little dance around the Newport house. Secretly, I was worried about gifts this year. What could top the fucking vest?

Yes, I am such a dedicated blogger that I went back through my photo archives to find the photo of the dancing. Because of this picture, I occasionally call him “Vestie.”

I needn’t have worried. The man himself told me what to get him. “I would like ink for my fancy pen,” he told me. Uh, okay. I called Montblanc and they told me blue ink was $16. DONE. For $16 he could have a fucking lifetime supply of ink. I went out and got him four bottles. Bailey came through with a pair of Calvin Klein pajama pants, but Mommy got him the best gift of all.... Usher cologne. I wish I had taken a pic of his face when he opened it. Why? Because he doesn’t wear Usher cologne. And she knows that. The only reason she got it for him is because it came with a free-gift-with-purchase - a soft leather man-bag. In other words, she got him useless cologne and a murse. He was delighted.

All in all, a super fun weekend. And tomorrow, I am off to Israel again! Don’t worry, I’ll post again before I leave. Everyone start taking deep breaths in order to prepare for my absence. It’ll be rough but I know you’ll make it through! :)

Silverman Sister Rules

I can’t believe I didn’t update you yesterday about the biggest news of all: MY SISTER IS HERE!

Yep, BJ is home for the weekend. And she brought her boyfriend, JMDV, with her. I am on my very best behavior because yesterday, my mother sat me down and reminded me about the importance of sharing, caring, and the Silverman Sister Rules.

In honor of Bailey’s visit, I think I will share them with you:

  • No hitting.
  • If you are going to hit, don’t go near your sister’s nose.
  • No borrowing clothes without permission.
  • If you are going to borrow clothes without permission, DO NOT borrow something that is brand-new with tags.
  • If you are going to borrow clothes without permission and you select an item that is brand-new with tags, DO NOT be stupid enough to take a photo of yourself wearing it and put it on the Facebook.
  • Do not call your sister a mean name.
  • If you are going to call your sister a mean name, you need to apologize. But GOD HELP YOU if you tell her to shut up (in the Silverman household no one is allowed to say shut up. You can say the F word and the A word and the B word and lots of other bad words, but not shut up.)
  • No hooking up with Friends of Sisters. (This rule has been violated. Many times. Oops.)
  • Whoever gets the comfy spot on the couch first gets to keep it the rest of the day. The other sister gets to hold the remote.
  • On odd numbered days, I get to sit in the front seat. On even numbered days, Bailey gets to sit in the front seat. (The odd numbered days are clearly better -- sometimes the month goes “31,1” and then she has a mini tantrum but OH WELL!)
  • When your sister wants something from the parentals, you need to take her side and help convince them that she should get it. Then she will do the same for you.
  • Your sister is your best friend. Hug her every day. Compliment her every hour.

BJ has been home for approximately 11 hours and so far we have had 0.0 fights. I will keep you all posted on this tally in the event that it changes (let’s face it, it’s going to change.)

We have lots of fun activities planned, like eating and eating and eating and shopping and tanning and barbequing for Father’s Day and eating some more.

Everyone enjoy your weekend and if you have a sister, give her a little kiss :)

JMS Life Updates

Hello hello! This week has been fairly quiet for me -- I saw Get Him to the Greek (starring my boyfriend Jonah Hill) which I enjoyed, and the Bloomingdales Private Sale occupied quite a bit of my time, but other than that, not too much is new. Well, maybe a few things...

Top Chef premiered last night! I am a MAJOR Top Chef fan -- I have not missed a single episode. I really liked the first episode -- my problem is, with 17 contestants, usually for the first three or four weeks I can’t keep track of anyone OR their dishes. In case you were wondering, my all-time favorite contestant is Harold from Season 1 (I’ve been to his restaurant Perilla in NY, which was amazing) and my least favorites are Ilan and Betty from Season 2. (Also, I have a minor crush on Tom Collichio. Just a small one that causes me to repeatedly dine at his restaurants in hope of seeing him and maybe getting to rub his adorable bald head.) I am already so excited about this season!

Several sparkle hair extensions have fallen out, due to a) natural causes, and b) Jacob yanking some out of my head. No need to fret -- my sparkle hair lady loves me, and offered to meet me at “our spot” (AKA the sidewalk) and put some more in FOR FREE. Score. The only thing better than sparkle hair? FREE SPARKLE HAIR.

I accompanied Alexandra to J.Crew today, and lo and behold, while perusing the sale rack, discovered my new pink skirt was ON SALE! Since I bought it less than a week ago, I was eligible for a price adjustment.... and may have got the blue one on sale as well. Oops. But also, YAY.

Are you familiar with rompers? This may be cause for some of you to throw up a little in your mouth, but I have been wanting one for a long time and today, found one that looks super cute. Where? Target of course. Here it is -- I am going to wear it with a black or white tank underneath and my gold Dolce Vita sandals.

In case some of you don’t keep up with my Twitter (over there on the sidebar ----->), you should know that for the past week or so, my dad and I have been going car shopping! There will be a massive reveal when a car is finally purchased, but in the meantime, may I just say how incredibly boring it is searching for cars. Expect an exciting update on this within the next few weeks (probably when I am back from Israel).

Speaking of Israel, I am leaving again on Tuesday! But more on that in a few days.

Currently my parents are literally shrieking at the top of their lungs at the television whilst watching the NBA Finals (did you know the Silvermans are anti-Laker? Yep.) and they are hurting my ears. Sample conversation:

(Kobe scores)

Parent 1: “SHIT BOMBS ON RYE!”

Parent 2: “JESUS EFFING CHRIST!”

Me: “Please stop with the outbursts. I am trying to blog.”

Parent 1: “Don’t score don’t score don’t score - GODDAMN IT!”

Parent 2: “AUGHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

Me: “You guys are freaking me out.”

I am seriously considering going to hide in the garage or something. Hope everyone had a lovely day!

Easy Breezy Beautiful Little Pink Skirt

Summer is in full swing. How do I know? Two reasons: it’s 9pm in the valley and it’s still 80 degrees outside, and all I want to do is wear skirts!

Don’t get me wrong, I still love my sundresses and continue to covet/buy them at an alarming rate. But lately, I’m also in the mood for cute, breezy little skirts to wear with thin t-shirts, tanks, belts, and strappy sandals.

Last week, I went in to return something at J.Crew, and as soon as I walked in and saw this skirt, I fell in love.

If you’re particularly observant, you’ll remember it from Monday’s post. I wore it to my cousin’s graduation party with a black tank, a vintage pearl necklace, and studded flip flops. Here, I’ll refresh your memory:

I don’t need to tell you that it came home with me in pink, and I’m seriously considering going back for it in blue!

I Have Sparkle Hair Extensions. Just Call Me Lady Gaga Jr.

The rumors are true. I HAVE SPARKLE HAIR EXTENSIONS.

OH YES. BEHOLD:

ignore jeffrey. look closely. can you see them!?

It started last month. I met my friend Alexandra for sushi and in the middle of popping a spicy tuna roll in my mouth, something caught my eye. “You have some shit in your hair,” I said sweetly. She immediately corrected me.

“They’re called Shimmerlys,” she said. “They’re glittery hair extensions that get tied to a single hair on your head so when you move, they sparkle through your hair!”

I was fascinated. Hair sparkles? Could this be true? Alex has dark blond hair and shiny gold Shimmerlys, but could I pull such a thing off? Cue to last week at Drybar. As my stylist introduced herself, I noticed HER hair sparkling too. But hers were RED -- almost the EXACT color of my own hair!

I immediately inquired within and to my delight, I found out that she did them herself, they were ridiculously easy to put it, AND she made house-calls. What was there to do but get them faster than you can say SPARKLESANDGLITTERPRINCESSOMG?

We arranged a time to meet. If you were driving by Gorham last Thursday around 5pm, that was me you saw sitting on the sidewalk with a huge smile on her face, getting pieces of glitter tied into her hair :)

Ladies, you have to get them. But don’t expect your men to understand. Right after I got them, I went to pick Jacob up. I didn’t say anything at first - I wanted to see if he would notice or not. After about 20 minutes, I couldn’t stand it anymore.

“DO YOU NOTICE THE SPARKLES IN MY HAIR?”

“Yes.”

“YOU DO!? Well, what do you think?”

“I think you look like a moron. What the fuck is in your hair?”

Pshhh. Men. They don’t get it. I can’t even tell you what joy they bring me. Everywhere I go, I toss my head in the sunlight and shake my hair in people’s faces :)

So to recap: I have sparkle hair extensions. And I just bought rhinestone sunglasses. And I have electric purple glitter nail polish on my toes. Basically what I’m trying to tell you is I am the Jewish Lady Gaga.

“I AM NOT GOING NEAR THE SKUNK! WHAT IF IT SPRAYS ME? I HAVE SPARKLE HAIR EXTENSIONS!”

Oh hello! It’s good to be back. I would ask if you missed me, but I know you did, due to several of you EXCESSIVELY harassing me regarding the whereabouts of new posts. One inquiry is flattering. Two is amusing. Three texts, two emails, a tweet, and a phone call? You need a hobby. (SBG, I’m talking to you.)

So where was I? Scampering around LA with Jacob, that’s where. We had a fantastic weekend and now that he’s gone, I am exhausted. It is a lot of hard work making sure your friend has a fab weekend!

Jacob arrived on Thursday night. About fourteen seconds passed before we were standing in the In & Out line and he was ordering a Double Double. As we sat down to eat I informed him to expect many photos being taken all weekend in order to properly document the fun. After all, I have all of you to think of, and what fun is a post without pictures?

On Friday, we did a little furniture perusing. Jake’s family owns a chain of furniture stores in Memphis, and he wanted to scope out the competition. Things I learned from him dragging me to HD Buttercup, Room & Board, Design Within Reach, etc?

  1. I hate walnut furniture. He loves it.
  2. I like chandeliers, modern lines, fuzzy pillows, and black furniture. He hates all of those things.
  3. We cannot co-decorate. Ever.

In one store, Jacob discovered the World’s Most Comfortable Bed. As a 6’4 German gay named Boris explained the wonders of this bed (starting at $6,000) to an enthralled Jacob, I laid down on it and took a little nap. When I woke up, I bet Jacob the cost of a bed that he would not, as he claims, move to Los Angeles by July of 2011. I am in BIG TROUBLE if he follows through.

On Friday night, special guest RF and I took Jake to The Bazaar. I will surely devote a future blogpost to The Bazaar, but for those of you who aren’t familiar with it, it is a restaurant inside the SLS Hotel that specializes in molecular gastronomy tapas. Basically, weird-as-fuck, freakishly amazing delicious food. Honestly, I was unsure about whether or not Jake would like it (in my experience, southern boys like to eat MEAT, and large quantities of it), so I told him if he didn’t enjoy it, we could always go back to In & Out after the meal.

I worried for nothing. HE LOVED IT. Three and a half hours, about a zillion plates a food, and way too many magic mojitos later, we were drunk, full, and really happy. He said it was some of the best food he had ever eaten in his life and I almost peed of happiness.

We woke up early on Saturday to watch the World Cup game with USA/England. Jacob screamed at my TV, paced, and ate bagels on my couch while I played on my computer. After meeting Anna and E for lunch and making a quick stop at Sweet Rose Creamery, we headed off to Melrose for some vintage shopping, where Jacob continued his tradition of buying a new pair of sunglasses whilst in LA. This time, he did not spend $350, but rather, a more economical $13 -- and I got a pair too! Don’t we look so glam?!

And then we headed off to the Dodger game! (Please note Jacob’s new Dodgers shirt in the photo above. He is a super fan.) It was my first one of the season and you know what that means - DODGER DOGS. The stupid Angels beat the Dodgers but we had fun anyways... until we reached the parking lot when IT happened.

The moment we walked up to my car, a small fat skunk ran through the parking lot and took refuge underneath my car. As soon as we approached, it raised its tail like it was about to spray, and we ran like hell away from the car as fast as we could. Cue me screaming, setting off the car alarm, Rachel laughing hysterically, and Jacob throwing rocks. I asked a few cops to help, and their response was to shine a flashlight at the little skunk and laugh. LA’s finest, ladies and gentlemen.

After about 20 minutes of this bullshittery, a miracle happened. A random guy saw our predicament and asked me if I wanted him to move my car for me. This brave soul sprinted towards my car, threw open the trunk, and drove my car 10 yards away from the skunk. I need to say publicly: DEAR HERO FROM VENTURA, CALIFORNIA, THANK YOU FOR YOUR BRAVERY.

Upon safely getting into the car, Jacob flashed his iPhone at me and informed me he had videotaped the ENTIRE THING. So please look forward to that video in a future post. (The title of this blog is a direct quote from me shrieking.)

Afterward the SKUNK INCIDENT, we needed to blow off some steam, so we went Cosmic Bowling! On our way there, I bragged about being the “child of a bowler” (ElSilv has been a member of a weekly bowling league for 20 years now), but then God saw fit to punish me with the high score of 22 POINTS. NOT KIDDING. Jacob, on the other hand, is apparently a pro bowler. Look at him and his perfect form.

Sunday morning it was my cousin’s graduation party, so we trekked off to Calabasas to celebrate with homemade beer, mimosas, and A TACO TRUCK! I had been wanting to introduce Jacob to the wonders of the LA food truck scene, so this was perfect. He really liked the tacos and we MAYYYYYYY have come up with a superb future business idea of our own. No details are available at this time, but in the meantime you can enjoy this cute picture of us and the Komodo Dragon truck guy Phil :)

Afterwards, I dragged him to the premiere of the March of the Living documentary. In 2008, during my first MOTL experience, a documentary film crew followed us throughout Poland and Israel making a movie of our journey, and now, two years later, the film was finally finished. Naturally, I made an enormous deal out of my “major motion picture debut” and he was a very good sport to come along. As a reward, I got him a celebrity sighting -- Maria Bello (of the cinematic masterpiece Coyote Ugly) sat in front of us, which pleased him to no end. (FYI - I am in the movie and you can hear me talk! If you see it, I am the one in huge sunglasses and green pants. Don’t ask.) Afterwards, we met my crazy parents for dinner at Hummus Bar, where my father was in a most delightful mood, due to his proximity to testosterone.

I took Jake to the airport this morning - I was sad to say goodbye but he says he is coming back here in August for my birthday party for more fun and food trucks, which makes me a very happy girl :)

I am currently typing this on my parent’s couch while my mom sits next to me watching The Bachelorette and crying hysterically. I need to go handle this immediately so until tomorrow, YALL HAVE A GOOD NIGHT!

I brushed up on my southern accent all weekend :) Can you tell?
